Improvements of NP-BioMar infrastructure will include the creation of a core facility for multi-disciplinary research, and new rooms for classes and meetings, in a single building to be constructed close to Segredo Beach, in a naturally inclined yard providing easy access and a privileged view to the São Sebastião Channel and Ilha Bela.

The project takes advantage of natural shading and ventilation, provided by the dense vegetation cover nearby and weather conditions at the littoral edge, and conceived to minimize interference with the surrounding environment, allowing the free flowing of water runoff and preserving the forest. Together with a creative distribution of working spaces, the project will not only allow a substantial reduction of air-conditioning costs, but also acoustic isolation, thus creating an adequate environment for teaching and lab-work.

Equipped with circulating seawater systems, the building will include specific laboratories for molecular biology, bioprospection, advanced microscopy, and a large laboratory for more general procedures. There will be also office space for faculty and students, a meeting room for 20 people and a garage for small boats plus a wet service area.

Resources were also allocated for the acquisition of different equipment, including an average sized boat (26 ft) to work on coastal habitats. NP-Biomar funding also covers expeditions and short field trips.
